Appointments & enquiries

Book an appointment, discuss a finding or clarify an administrative question: choose the appropriate route. You do not need to know a diagnosis. In an emergency, please do not wait for an online reply.

If you need urgent medical help

For life-threatening symptoms or a risk of permanent harm, please call 112. This applies particularly to back pain with new paralysis, numbness between your legs (the saddle area) or problems with bladder or bowel control. Do not wait for a reply from our practice. New paralysis is a warning sign even if it initially seems mild. For urgent, non-life-threatening symptoms during consultation hours, please seek assessment at your GP practice without delay. Outside consultation hours, 116117 can help if treatment cannot wait until the next regular consultation session. An emergency department is the appropriate route when acute hospital care is required or a doctor recommends it. Our online reception is unsuitable for emergencies or immediate assessment.

Understanding

A closer look

You would like new symptoms assessed, want to discuss a finding or need to know how treatment already recommended will continue. Perhaps you simply need administrative information and would prefer not to come to the practice unnecessarily. Here you can find ways to access OrthoCoast in Wolgast. Describe your concern as you experience it. You do not need to know the appropriate diagnosis or feel confident with medical terminology. What matters is what you want to clarify and whether your symptoms are new or have changed.

Further information

Discussing a finding or a known condition

Perhaps a diagnosis already exists, but its implications are unclear. In that case, mention the condition or examination performed and the question you would like to discuss. This could concern a DXA finding, osteoporosis treatment or an existing MRI report, for example. Previous findings help build on the care you have received so far. When making arrangements, ask which documents are needed for the appointment. You do not need to decide which measurement is most important; a complete report is usually more helpful than individual numbers copied out.

Continuing treatment already recommended

If we have agreed further sessions after medical advice or an initial treatment, you can use the personal booking access we discussed with you. There you can select the approved follow-up appointments within the agreed scope. This access applies to your treatment and the specified intervals. A recommendation from another practice or information from the internet is initially a reason for medical assessment. It does not replace our treatment planning or approval of the appropriate appointment route. Please mention any existing recommendation when contacting us. If your personal link is missing or does not work, contact the practice through the published options. Please do not book another appointment type as a substitute. If you have new symptoms or an unexpected reaction after a session, we also first clarify with you whether the planned treatment should continue.

Administrative questions through the online reception

Our existing online reception is available for administrative enquiries. Select an option actually offered there that matches your question. Describe what you need as specifically as possible so that your enquiry can be understood and handled. Sending an enquiry does not yet mean that a service has been agreed or an appointment firmly booked. Please check the relevant reply. In a medical emergency or with a marked acute deterioration, do not wait for an online message to be processed.

If the digital route does not suit you

Not everyone wants to organise medical matters on a screen. Perhaps a selection is unclear, or your situation is difficult to describe in a form. You can use the contact options published under “Contact and directions” and discuss your concern with the practice in person or by telephone. Also tell us if you need support for your visit to the practice. This allows us to clarify beforehand which arrangements are possible in your particular situation. Information about accessibility and getting here is available in the relevant service section. As an existing patient, please first use the route we discussed with you during your consultation for the next steps. If you need help with it, briefly tell us where you are getting stuck. The published contact options are also available for a first enquiry.

Your enquiry to the practice

Choose the contact route that fits your question and briefly describe your concern. If you have already received documents or a personal treatment recommendation, refer to them. This allows the next step to build on your existing care.

What to expect and next steps

An appointment for medical assessment

If symptoms are new, persistent or limiting everyday life, an initial medical assessment is useful. In your enquiry, mention the affected area and how long the problem has been present. A description such as “knee pain for three weeks, stairs now much harder” is often clearer than a diagnosis you suspect yourself. If there was an accident beforehand or the condition is worsening rapidly, state this explicitly. For acute warning signs, use the urgent-help routes described below. An appointment confirmation alone does not amount to a medical assessment of urgency. In the online appointment calendar, choose from the appointment types offered for your concern. Please read the preparation instructions. A booking is only complete once you have received the confirmation email. If it is missing, also check your spam folder and clarify the booking status with the practice before booking another appointment just in case.

Change or cancel an appointment

If you would like to change your agreed appointment, arrange this with us through the published contact options. The change is only complete when the new appointment is confirmed. If no suitable appointment is available, describe your concern to us. We will clarify with you which route is appropriate. Please avoid booking an appointment that is unsuitable for you. If you no longer need an appointment, please cancel at least 24 hours beforehand, counting working days only; weekends and public holidays do not count. For Monday at 10 am, this means cancelling by Friday at 10 am. Please let us know even if you cannot attend at short notice. Information about short-notice cancellations, a possible missed-appointment fee and repeatedly missed appointments is available under “Change or cancel an appointment”. If your symptoms worsen acutely, do not wait for a routine appointment. Follow the guidance under “Acute symptoms and emergencies”.

Preparing for the appointment

Bring existing relevant medical letters, imaging findings and an up-to-date medication list. For an osteological question, previous bone density scans and information about fractures are helpful. After treatment, you should also be able to describe whether it helped and whether unwanted effects occurred. A brief note of your most important questions can make the conversation easier. What should be clearer after the appointment? Which everyday situation would you like to improve? If someone accompanying you helps you remember information, you can clarify the practical arrangements with the practice beforehand. Please bring any existing X-rays, MRI or CT scans, ideally with the written report and corresponding images, for example through image access with a QR code or on CD. An up-to-date list of diagnoses and medicines helps us take coexisting conditions and treatments into account. You do not need to arrange new imaging yourself for the initial assessment.

What matters for your decision

Clarifying costs and access in good time

If you are covered by German statutory health insurance and pay yourself for a service your health insurer does not cover, we provide a cost estimate in advance. We explain the scope of the service and the expected costs. We only provide the service after you have confirmed the self-funding agreement in writing with your signature. An ordinary appointment enquiry is not consent to additional chargeable services. DXA bone density scanning is offered at our practice as a self-funded service. More information about what is included is available on the DXA page. We clarify the billing arrangements for other examinations or treatments separately. Medical urgency is assessed independently of this.

Frequently asked questions

Does sending an enquiry mean I have a confirmed appointment?
No. A sent enquiry, for example by email, is not yet an appointment booking. We recommend the online appointment calendar for choosing an appointment directly. After booking, look for the confirmation email. If it is missing, check your spam folder and clarify the booking status with the practice.
What should I do if no suitable appointment is shown?
If no suitable appointment is available, describe your concern to us. We will clarify with you which route is appropriate. Please avoid booking an appointment that is unsuitable for you. For urgent symptoms, please follow the guidance on “Acute symptoms and medical emergencies“.
Can I organise treatment for another person?
You may book an appointment for another person with their consent. Enter the patient's details, including their email address and contact details. The appointment confirmation must be linked to the correct patient. If you need help, speak to our team.
Do I need a referral?
That depends on the specific reason for care and the conditions that apply. When arranging your appointment, clarify which documents are required. A uniform assurance covering all doctors and services would not be reliable.
Can I report an emergency through the online reception?
The online reception is unsuitable for emergency care. If life is at risk or there are neurological emergency signs, call 112 immediately. For acute, non-life-threatening orthopaedic symptoms, you can select a suitable urgent appointment in the online calendar if one is offered there and you can wait until then. For urgent, non-life-threatening symptoms during consultation hours, please seek assessment at your GP practice without delay. If urgency is unclear, do not wait for a digital reply. Outside consultation hours, 116117 can help if treatment cannot wait until the next regular consultation session.

Email notifications

At OrthoCoast, you can receive email reminders for your appointments and notifications when a suitable earlier appointment becomes available. A valid email address in your patient record is required. If you would like these notifications or no longer wish to receive them, please tell us during your consultation. Our team records your choice in your patient record. You cannot change this setting on this website. These services are optional. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future; you can also contact us by telephone or in writing to do so. Your appointment booking and treatment are unaffected.
