Overview

Which treatment suits your situation

Perhaps you would like to walk further without constantly thinking about a painful joint. Perhaps someone has recommended an injection and you first want to understand what it involves. Or perhaps you are looking for a way to cope better with recurring back pain.

Here you will find the treatment areas offered by OrthoCoast in Wolgast. This overview helps you find a treatment you know, compare different approaches and understand their role. Together with you, we decide which treatment is appropriate based on your symptoms, findings and personal goals.

Understanding

Start with an achievable goal

Before choosing a method, we want to understand what you would like treatment to change. This might be your sleep, returning to a particular activity or feeling more secure in daily life. Your previous experiences matter too. Which measures have helped, and which have been difficult to put into practice?

A recommendation needs to fit your health circumstances. Other conditions and medication can influence the choice, as can your capacity for activity and personal wishes. We want you to understand what a proposed step is intended to achieve and when it makes sense to review progress.

Movement and non-surgical treatment

An active approach to movement plays an important role in many orthopaedic conditions. For knee osteoarthritis, for example, suitable strength and mobility training has been shown to reduce pain and improve function. The key is an approach that suits your own capacity for activity. The ‘Movement and exercise’ page explores this in more detail.

Physical therapies offered at OrthoCoast include radial and focused shockwave therapy, as well as massage for painful areas of muscle tightness known as myogeloses. These treatments have different therapeutic principles, serve different purposes and are not interchangeable. We assess whether one is suitable for you based on your symptoms and findings. Shockwave therapy is explained on a separate page. Other non-surgical treatment approaches include manual medicine, advice on braces and aids, and pain medication. We also explain orthobiological treatment using ACP/PRP from your own blood on a separate page. This overview is not exhaustive and does not describe a fixed treatment package. Our physical therapies also include the Evocell mechanotransduction treatment bed. It can be used as an additional treatment for selected back symptoms and muscle tension. Its use and limitations are explained on a separate page.

Further information

Carefully considering injections and other treatments

If ACP/PRP, hyaluronic acid or an image-guided injection has been recommended to you, you can go directly to the relevant page. These treatments differ in how they are used and the problems for which they may be considered. The image-guided injections section also includes information about periradicular therapy, or PRT.

The detailed pages describe possible goals, limitations and what treatment involves. Alternatives and risks also matter when making a decision. A recommendation cannot be based on the name of a procedure alone. Equally, a self-funded service is not automatically more suitable than a service covered by statutory health insurance.

You will also find separate information about shockwave therapy, laser therapy and neural therapy. Acupuncture at our practice is provided by Dipl. med. Matthias Dallmann. Availability needs to be coordinated with his locum work; the practice will clarify the specific arrangements.

Back pain treatment as coordinated care

If back pain is your main concern, you do not need to start by comparing individual treatments. Our ‘Back pain treatment’ specialist page brings assessment together with possible non-surgical treatment steps. It describes how symptoms, examination findings and progress so far are considered together.

This may be more helpful than starting with a particular injection or device. If you already have a specific medical recommendation, bring it with you. We will review it in the context of your current situation.

Treating osteoporosis and supporting bone health

Osteoporosis care focuses on assessing and reducing your individual fracture risk. As part of the osteological assessment, we consider whether medication is appropriate for you and, if so, which treatment. We or your GP then discuss the recommendation with you. The ‘Osteoporosis medication’ page explains these decisions and the importance of follow-up checks.

Movement, nutrition and fall prevention complement care according to individual needs. At the Centre for Osteoporosis and Osteology, these topics are brought together with diagnostic assessment. You do not have to work out a treatment plan yourself from a single measurement.

Where relevant to the question being assessed, BIA, strength measurement and functional tests may be added for planning and monitoring progress. BIA is a diagnostic assessment of body composition. Together with the other findings, it helps tailor measures to support muscles and bone health.

What matters for your decision

Clarifying costs and next steps in advance

If a proposed service is not covered by your German statutory health insurer and you wish to pay for it yourself, you will receive a cost estimate beforehand. We discuss the planned scope of the service and its expected cost with you. We provide the self-funded service only after you have signed to confirm that you want the treatment and accept these costs. The type and scope are agreed individually; a universally applicable price cannot be given in advance.

If you have already received a treatment recommendation during a consultation with us, ‘Previously recommended treatment’ explains how to arrange your next treatment appointment. A recommendation does not mean that every appointment is freely available to book. If you would first like advice, or are bringing a recommendation from another practice, describe your concern using the general appointment route.

Frequently asked questions

Can I find out more first without committing to treatment?
Yes. This information is intended to help you understand the questions and options involved. During your consultation, please say if you still feel unable to assess the benefits, risks or alternatives sufficiently.
Is treatment the same for everyone with the same diagnosis?
No. Even with the same diagnosis, people can have different starting points, symptoms and treatment goals. We therefore assess whether a specific recommendation fits your situation.
Which doctors provide each treatment?
The service pages and doctor profiles explain who can provide or medically oversee each treatment for you. A profile does not confirm an appointment. If you would like to see a particular doctor, please mention this when arranging your appointment with the practice.
